2025 marks 24 years of Chimney Sweeping for Gavin. It has been a full and varied time in the trade. In 2001 Gavin was offered the chance to work alongside a national company helping them with a sweeping contract. After some initial training Gavin was left to “get on with the job”, this led him into sweeping friends and family’s chimneys. It was then he decided to push Chimney Sweeping as a part of their family coal business.

In 2008 Gavin trained with and joined the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps, this was soon followed by the taking and passing of the HETAS Solid Fuel Awareness Course and registering as a HETAS Approved Chimney Sweep. Further professional development over the years included CCTV, Surveying and Working at Heights Courses.

Chimney Sweeping then became a full-time occupation with his wife Claire running the administration side of the business, taking bookings using a digital booking and reminder system. Gavin was then asked to become an onsite trainer for the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps, this was followed by qualifying as an assessor of new chimney sweeps.

2020 Gavin was voted onto the Board of Directors of the Guild by his fellow members this is a huge honour, and he is now part of shaping the future of the sweeping industry.

 

During the summer of 2020 Gavin qualified as and NVQ Chimney Sweep, the ONLY Nationally recognised qualification in Chimney Sweeping.

In 2022 Ryan came to join us, allowing our business to grow. Ryan is now into his 3rd year of working with us and in that time, he had developed his knowledge greatly in the industry and joins Gavin in being a NVQ Qualified Chimney Sweep as well as being a member of the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps.
